Many missionaries came to Poland from Ireland and Scotland. The first abbot in the second half of the eleventh century, was Anchoras in Tyniec, who was Irish or Scottish. Tyniec was legendary the Benedictine Abbey   near Cracow. The name of the village comes from a Celtic language word tyn, which means wall or fence, and which means that the history of Tyniec as a fortified settlement dates back to pre-Slavic times.
